About Tarnos
My name’s Tarnos, I’m a local resident artist. My paintings are unique because of their colour, vibrancy and what they bring to an environment.
My paintings are done on a solid back frame and then laminated with foil. Over the top of the foil I use poly chemical lacquers that I tint. I discovered this through Japanese artists. Centuries ago the same process was used on Komono’s. I’m replicating that process with modern materials.
Behind each piece is a chemical technical dance. I’ve created these Artworks that are unique in their own, and unique in their individuality and no two pieces are the same.
My paintings are done on reflective surfaces so that they change from day to night. At night when the lights are on, they have a different aspect of their own, they also capture different lights of the day and have a nice sense of deflection.
Having captured what I have done so far with foil, I’ve been exploring through mirror & aluminium sheets which has opened up a totally new genre of artwork for me.
The foil process is a handcrafted process and even though it’s good I’m still exploring new mediums. My plan is to make it more contemporary and slick. I’m really curious about how colour can change a room and create a dynamic environment and how people relate to different colours.
My clients are mainly people who feel energized and excited by the paintings because of their colours, diversity and sense of space.
The hanging of the painting for me is really important, because it means I’m following something right through to the end. Seeing the passion of a client selecting my artwork then hanging it for them, forms a bond between the painting and the buyer. I find that to be a really harmonious experience and I get a lot of enjoyment out of it and is probably why I paint.
